NuMat Medtech secures a €530,000 round of investment

NuMat Medtech, a medical technology company based at the Balearic Technological Innovation Park (ParcBIT) and involved in developing coatings for medical implants, today announces a €530,000 round of capital finance. NuMat will use the funds secured to make preclinical studies of its coatings on various types of implant and to strengthen its strategic alliances with important international players in the dental and orthopaedics industry.

The investment comes from the Caixa Capital Risc venture capital fund and other private investors, most of them well-known businesspeople on the Balearic Islands.

Dr Marta Monjo, CSO and founder of NuMat, said: “This investment allows us to go ahead with the preclinical studies of implants covered with our coatings. We are working on bases of different materials. Our agreements include a project with an American company to trial our coatings on medical implants made with new 3D printing techniques, which could result in a highly innovative product with clear competitive advantages.”

Mr Antonio Caldentey, CEO of NuMat, said: “We are really delighted to reach this milestone, which shows the continuing support and confidence of our partners and investors. We have a great opportunity to bring our technologies to the market with a committed team, and the interest of various important companies in the sector at international level confirms we are on the right track.”

About coatings for implants

Nowadays, the use of implants is a widespread technology but there are still situations when the patient either suffers a rejection or requires a second intervention. One of the main reasons for the problems caused is infection, and sometimes the poor bone quality of the recipient patient. NuMat presents a solution improving on current technologies. NuMat coatings are developed to give the implant multifunctional qualities, promoting improved bone integration and improved soft tissue integration, introducing an anti-inflammatory effect and reducing the risk of infection. This could make it the first technological solution for the medical implant industry offering all these properties simultaneously.
